Mountz Continues to Build a Thriving Tool Business Through Innovation, Precision

Mountz began as many other Silicon Valley companies have: in a garage. With inspiration from the innovation around it, the California-based business has become one of the world’s best-known makers of high-precision torque tools, including the world’s first electronic torque calibration analyser and the first hybrid torque control assembly system.

“With NetSuite, we leverage data across all departments. It’s a single source for all of our data. Marketing deploys its product data to our web store, salespeople manage their own accounts, manufacturing people can track work orders and inventory in real time, and our CEO, who wouldn't go near our other systems, is now fully engaged with our information technology.” Chris Morris, Product Marketing Manager, Mountz Inc.

Systems Overhaul Primes Business

Business diversification fuels growth
As Mountz diversified its business into automotive professionals and metric fasteners and turned the first ecommerce website in the torque tools industry, it saw significant growth. It has since expanded internationally with personnel at its San Jose, Calif. headquarters and an office in Alabama, as well as international offices in Canada, the UK and Mexico.
An early shift to the cloud
Early on, Mountz was relying on disparate systems to run the business, including Microsoft GP, Sage Peachtree and GoldMine, which could not keep up with its growth and evolution. Mountz was an early adopter of cloud ERP and implemented NetSuite in 2004, establishing a single platform on which to manage all departmental data.
NetSuite reduces costs, assists expansion
The move to NetSuite saved Mountz more than $100,000 a year just by eliminating server hardware and IT resources needed for on-premises infrastructure while managing inventory, ecommerce, customer and financial data in one central system. The company has since seen annual growth of 15% a year and built a customer base of more than 7,500, including corporate buyers like IBM, Ford, Boston Scientific and Raytheon.
Turning to a smarter future
As the market for torque solutions continues to evolve and smart technology automates traditional manufacturing and industrial practices, Mountz aims to continue delivering innovative products and customer experiences across its sales channels. The company is also refining its marketing automation process to more precisely manage lead flow and ROI for marketing programs across advertising, trade shows, ecommerce and more.
