Industry: SaaS Platform Integration

The integration revolution has enabled businesses of all sizes to implement solutions that improve efficiencies while reducing total cost of ownership. As cloud-based, SaaS applications continue to grow in prevalence—some reports predict an estimated 15 percent of all enterprise purchases by 2015—the playing field will continue to level. Boomi—which became Dell Boomi in 2010 after being acquired by Dell—was the first integration solution to be built completely in the cloud, enabling it to take advantage of that environment.

Most integration solutions were built pre-cloud and installed on-premise. The physical restrictions of that model, along with the ongoing resources needed to maintain on-premise solutions, made opportunities for implementation prohibitive. Integration had to be implemented on-site. But cloud technology reversed the process. Dell Boomi enables companies of all sizes to manage the entire integration life cycle virtually. It's a scalable integration platform that provides rapid time to value and a low total cost of ownership.

Boomi was founded in 2000 and went through several iterations before the release of its revolutionary, cloud-based AtomSphere platform in 2007. Built with SaaS technology, AtomSphere enables companies to connect any combination of SaaS, on-premise, and cloud applications without installation or maintenance of integration software or hardware.

Dell Boomi's technology is essentially comprised of two parts: The SaaS application where integrations are developed and managed, and the Atom, which is the java run-time engine that runs the integration process. The SaaS application allows users to visually orchestrate the moving of data between applications and manage production integrations from the web. The Atom component enables the integration process to run in the cloud, connecting NetSuite to other SaaS applications such as Salesforce or Workday. The Atom can also be deployed on-premise when connecting NetSuite to an on-premise application liked SAP, greatly reducing IT department security concerns.

NetSuite a Key Dell Boomi Partner

As enterprise organisations adapt to the SaaS model, they require a suite experience that wraps necessities like ERP, CRM, and eCommerce into an efficient package. NetSuite provides that bundled solution, which can then be extended through Dell Boomi's integration solution to communicate with other solutions like Salesforce, Workday, and SAP.

Dell Boomi has been especially pleased with NetSuite because it offers the most platform-agnostic framework of all ERPs, placing few limitations on what can be integrated. “Some ERPs are completely closed, others are brittle or have weak APIs," said Rick Nucci, Founder & General Manager, Dell Boomi. “With NetSuite, we've built a robust connecter that allows us to show vendors the power of the relationship. NetSuite has referred Dell Boomi to many of its customers and prospects as a trusted integration platform. In turn, Dell Boomi is providing lasting value to NetSuite customers and extending their use of NetSuite. This two-way partnership benefits customers, first and foremost, as well as NetSuite and Dell Boomi."

A key indicator of the partnership's strength is Dell Boomi's development of the Cloud Integration for Human Capital Management(opens in new tab) solution specifically for NetSuite. Any Workday customer can integrate the solution with NetSuite by using Dell Boomi. “After speaking to NetSuite representatives, along with direct customer engagement, it became clear that there was significant business rationale for creating a new employee synchronisation solution," said Diane Ruth, Executive Director, Business Development at Dell Boomi. "Being responsive to the needs of our partners and our joint customers is a priority for us, and enabling HCM processes with NetSuite is just one way of demonstrating our commitment."

Leveraging Networks Will Continue to Catapult Growth Opportunities

NetSuite's open partnership model has led to significant levels of attention from technology solutions providers. Dell Boomi, recognising the value of their existing relationship with NetSuite, sought to highlight joint customer successes. One example of the accomplishments of this strategic partnership was the outcome of working with GoPro.

GoPro, an HD camera manufacturer whose products are sold in stores like Best Buy, needed to enable electronic data interchange (EDI) with their retailers. GoPro wanted to continue using NetSuite and understood the value of a cloud-based IT strategy, so Dell Boomi's platform made good business sense to them. Dell Boomi provided GoPro with a proof of concept for EDI, and GoPro subsequently decided to use AtomSphere to enable EDI. GoPro has since worked with NetSuite and Dell Boomi to implement HCM and project management processes.

Dell Boomi has received other benefits from its partnership with NetSuite. “As a NetSuite partner we're included in roadshow events with the NetSuite sales teams as well as the annual SuiteWorld conference," said Nucci. “NetSuite works closely with us, which helps tell a more complete and clear story of the value Dell Boomi provides to their customers. Our platforms work very well together. It's been and continues to be a rewarding partnership."
