A Budgeting Solution That Helps, Not Hurts

Doubled in size
Crossroads brings in about $28 million annually, largely from grants and reimbursements from programs like Medicare. The nonprofit doubled in size over the past five years, expanding into primary care and adding a pharmacy to its list of facilities. The team of 300 now serves about 7,000 clients.
Blackbaud and bolt-on tools fall short
Crossroads’ growth was going to make its already-difficult budgeting process even more complicated. The organisation often allocates grant funds across multiple projects. It also runs labor distributions, splitting an employee’s time and salary across multiple grants. Its former mix of systems, Blackbaud and a bolt-on budgeting tool, couldn’t handle this type of detailed budgeting and tracking.
Making the most of funding
Crossroads chose NetSuite ERP over Acumatica, Microsoft, and Sage mainly for its budgeting functionality, strong in-house support, and network of partners. The team uses NetSuite Planning and Budgeting to forecast and track its use of every grant dollar so that none is left unused, without complicated spreadsheet formulas to handle allocations. The solution also tracks Crossroads’ use of grants across several projects.
Flawless forecasting
NetSuite Planning and Budgeting also helps the team prepare forecasts for grant programs that follow varying fiscal years, and the Smart View(opens in new tab) tool lets them export data into Excel for formatting before board presentations. Amid rising costs, Crossroads also uses NetSuite to monitor operating margins at each level of the organisation so that leadership can spot areas for better financial management—and stay prepared for anything that comes next.
